The Nimrod Cemetery is located in the center of Nimrod. However, at one time it was considered "out of town' when the first buildings of Nimrod were located about a half mile north. As the village grew, the buildings eventually surrounded the cemetery.
The current Nimrod Cemetery Assn., Inc. was formed in April 1940, and the first officers were: Martin Riley, president; Cora Graba, vice-president; Harry E. Nielsen, secretary; Clara Frame, treasurer; and George Zentz, diretor.
The first official duty was to secure, by deed, the property where the cemetery was located and to write the by-laws, based on the unrecorded by-laws of the pioneers who established the cemetery in the late 1800's. The association received a deed from M.D. and Ozella Tomlinson for a sum of $10.00 in May 1940. They then proceeded to identify each gravesite, and those which were termed "unknown" had markers made by Glen Frame and Alfred Haugen and placed on these unidentified sites.
The association holds their anuual meeting and clean-up in May of each year. The cemetery is maintained on yearly dues from the families and volunteers.
