Llanthony Priory
Llanthony, Monmouthshire, Wales
The monks of Llanthony Priory were constantly attacked by the local Welsh, moving to Llanthony Secunda Priory in Gloucester, England, built for them by Miles FitzWalter in 1136. The priory was rebuilt by Hugh de Lacy between 1186 and 1217, becoming one of the greatest medieval buildings in Wales; a mixture of Norman and Gothic architecture. In 1481, the priory had been abandoned and was formally merged with its sister site in Gloucester, and both sites were dissolved in 1538.
