John Abraham and his wife, Sarah McCue, moved from Ohio to Henry County in 1841. John purchased land on Section 35, built a home, but died in 1843, leaving a widow with seven small children, the youngest born after the death of his father.
Section 35 Center Township became the Abraham homestead. John Abraham died in 1843 and possibly was the first burial.
Lot Abraham, the eldest, served with Co D 4th Iowa Cavalry and when he returned home he began independent farming on the family homestead. He also built a chapel on the site.
