In May of 1836, Thomas Pangborn, along with some of his neighbors, came to Illinois. Thomas and his brother Ransom entered deeds for land on Spring Creek and were among the earliest settlers in what is now Onarga, Iroquois County, Illinois. In December 1836, Thomas and Jane (Harper) Pangborn's infant son Johnston died and was the first person buried in the Pangborn burying ground.
