Brimstone Hill built about 1840 by Charles Arundell, who ran an ordinary on the site, says Paul Brown, the current owner of the home. During the Civil War, it was referred to as "Arundels Farm accourding to 1971 Historic American Buildings Survey. An 1883 Record of Roads survey mentions "C.A. Arundel's Old Stand on the Ox Road."
Ranger Mosby by Virgin Carrington Jones contends that the Arundells were Union sumpathizers during the Civil War. They arranged for the Union forces to attack a group of Mosby's Rangers at Brimstone Hill on 9 April 1865. This is knows as the last skirmish of the Civil War in Va..
The cemetery is located about 150 feet east of the house near the vegtable garden. The owner has laid a bed of gravel and placed the eight marble gravestones flat on the ground in three rows. The grounds of the house are very well maintained; the area around the cemetery is not movwed regularaly, but freshly cut when cemetery was surveyed in Sept 1994.
