On a previous visit estimated between 1950-1970 my Great 2nd cousin Wilbur Wilson Yates 1915-2006, who was a well known citizen of Chrisman known to do public service, read and documented his findings of Bacon Cemetery.
After his death as the unoffical family genealogy of the current era I was passed his large box of genealogy information, all created before word processors and the Internet. In his honor I cross-checked all of his details to make sure they were captured and organized. I scanned several items and created a virtual genealogy box of his of certain things I thought others would find helpful some day. He read several cemeteries and did this one earlier when it appears he was able to read many of the headstones; I have assisted by trying to find connecting genealogy. Here is a link to his reading:
A more recent visit:
It is VERY overgrown – not just hard to walk into, but almost impossible; standing at the tree line looking into the "jungle", we were able to spot the "unknown" stone that was previously posted to Find a Grave – and could see nothing else that looked like part of a cemetery. But with the plot map created by Wilbur W. Yates, I knew there might be more – and we were able to find many of the other plots.
We did not find any complete stone – many pieces of stone. Looks like at some point many graves were covered in concrete with the stones stuck right into the concrete (and then broke off at the base into pieces) – Can't really tell if the whole grave is covered, or just partial… it was just so hard to move around in there.
