This cemetery is also known as "Woodward Cemetery." The name Montgomery Cemetery was derived from my interview with the people who live behind the cemetery, who state that "Montgomery" is the only name they have ever heard it referred to as. From my perspective, that makes sense, since the majority of legible markers are for the Montgomery Family. The interview also revealed that there are numerous people buried here who do not have a marker and have not, to the knowledge of the residents, been recorded elsewhere. They have been told that up to 200 persons are buried here.
Driving directions:
From Apollo, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, at the bridge, over the Kiskimineatus River, drive straight up the hill, on Pennsylvania Route 56 East, toward Shelocta, Pennsylvania. Drive for 13.4 miles, from this bridge, to the intersection of Pennsylvania Route 210. At this intersection, turn left onto Route 210 North and drive for 1.17 miles to the intersection of Pine Hill Road. Turn left onto Pine Hill Road and drive, up the hill, for 0.75 miles. The cemetery is located in the fenced area, on the left, at the top of this hill.
