With the coming of the settlers also came sickness and death. At first there were no cemeteries so loved ones were either buried on the farm or at a central place.
At a meeting of interested citizens held at Wm. McKenzie's house, the Glenboro Cemetery was formed when an offer of two acres of land for a cemetery was accepted from James Ward. Two more acres of land were purchased later. Bodies were moved from private land and also from a burial ground on 17-6-14(-W1). Trees were planted at the cemetery.
The cemeteries were at first uncared for except for a few individuals who tended the graves of their loved ones.
Large monuments appeared in the cemeteries which today would cost thousands of dollars. The municipal councils finally recognized the need for more care of the graveyards and grants were set aside for perpetual care. The Glenboro Cemetery is now one of the best kept rural cemeteries in Manitoba. In 1971, a crypt (or winter vault) was erected at Glenboro Cemetery so that winter burials are no longer necessary.

As noted above, a part of the community's story, and those of its inhabitants, from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1979 is told in the volume "Beneath the Long Grass", especially on the cited page . A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0527), transcribed by a member or members in 1990. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
