IMPORTANT NOTE: Purcellville is the Post Office that serves this area. The PHYSICAL location of this cemetery is Neersville (which does not have a post office).
Short BIO: In the 1830s the Ebenezer Methodist Episcpol Church was established in Neersville, roughly 1/2 mile South-East of the present church. The desire for a more accessable location caused the purchase of the current property in the early 1890s. In 1896-1897 construction was completed of the new church, which still stands today. At some point after it move, the church became United Methodist. The church is a beautiful one-room structure. Another stone structure is on the property known as the Waters Schoolhouse. It pre-dates the church and is used for Sunday school. The cemetery is located to the left of the church as is fairly well kept.
Driving Directions: The primary road in the area is US Rt-340 which runs between Charles Town/Harpers Ferry WV and Frederick MD. If travelling from Frederick, take US Rt-340 WEST. After about 16 miles you will cross the Potomac River into Virginia. 1/4 of a mile (or less) after crossing the bridge there will be a stop light. Turn LEFT at the light ... this is Harpers Ferry Road/VA-671. If travelling from Charles Town or Harpers Ferry, follow US Rt-340 EAST. After you cross the Shenandoah River into Virginia, there will be a stop light after about 1 mile. Turn RIGHT on to Harpers Ferry Road/VA-671. Once on Harpers Ferry Road you will travel slightly less than two miles and Ebenezer Church and Cemetery will be on your LEFT. The entrance is somewhat hidden, so be careful or you'll pass it by.
