On May 4, 1844, Father Gallinger, the pastor of the parish, purchased the 2 1/4 acre property for $200. The sellers, Jacob Magez and his wife, Maria Magdalena, were some of the early German settlers in the area. Mt Olive, the newer cemetery for the parish, began accepting burials in 1916.

Saint Nicholas Cemetery is located on the eastern end of Wheeling Avenue about 1/4 mile west of its deadend at Richards Road, on the right side of the street. There is only street parking available. It currently covers a little more than one acre of ground and appears to be occasionally maintained, being mowed a few times during the year. Some graves may be difficult to reach as the cemetery drops over a hillside on the back and this is not a very 'safe' neighborhood to visit.

The cemetery is located in Wayne Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, and is # 8971 (Old Saint Nicholas Catholic Cemetery) in "Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003", compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
