There are 26 marked graves, all for individuals who died before 1850. Of those buried here, 16 lived in Kentucky prior to 1800. Three served in the War of 1812, two of those fought at the Battle of the Thames, one at the Battle of New Orleans, and have military markers. Two others are designated as patriots in the Revolution – one for having donated goods and services, the other for an oath of allegiance. These two have patriots markers placed by the Sons of the American Revolution.
The patriarch of this family is Edward Tyler who died in 1802 at age 85. He and his wife Ann "Nancy" Langley, who died in 1820 at age 88, are the g-g-g-grandparents of Harry S. Truman, a relationship proven with primary documentation. They are also the g-g-grandparents of Henry Tyler who served as mayor of Louisville in the 1890s. Of their ten children, one daughter and two sons are buried here including Moses Tyler, 1755 – 1839, whose late 18th century homestead is today part of the nearby Blackacre State Nature Preserve.
In addition to the area enclosed by the stone wall, the original deed - Edward Tyler to Levi Tyler, 31 Aug 1837, Jefferson County Deed Book 49, pages 444 & 445 - made provision for the burials of friends, other descendants, and servants, outside the wall. Although the same deed grants the cemetery over one acre of ground, considerably less than that is enclosed. Any graves outside the wall are unmarked.
