A Presbyterian congregation was formed in 1745 in the Falling Waters area. The first house of worship was a log building, which was located at the top of a hill overlooking a great bend of the Potomac River.
The congregation moved to a new site at Spring Mills. The deed, dated July 25, 1796, is for an acre and a half of land from John and Sarah Harlan to the trustees. According to tradition, this building was wood and was destroyed by fire.
On this site in 1834, the present church was built. In 1842 the congregation acquired an additional 2 and one half acres for the cemetery. In 1897 5 more acres were acquired from Mary C. and Charles McDowell to further enlarge the cemetery.
There are many Cunningham, Harlan, Lingamfelter, Porterfield, and Seibert family members buried in the church cemetery. The church and cemetery are listed in the National Register of Historic Places and Sites.
