The Oaklawn Mausoleum was closed and condemned in 1998 because of its poor condition and the expense to repair and maintain it. In November of 1996, it was discovered that vandals broke into the Oaklawn Mausoleum causing damage and desecrating one of its occupants; at the time the Oaklawn Mausoleum had 370 interred within it.
