The church of Ginnum was built in the 12th century, almost certainly as a replacement for a wooden chapel. Traces of this have been found during archaeological research.
The north wall of the nave is largely built of tuff. The south wall of the nave, the three-sided choir and the tower are built of brick.
Of the two bells hanging in the tower, one dates from 1490, the other from 1344. Both bells were cast at the Stephanus foundry. The church was therefore also called the Stephanuskerk.
In 1973 a complete restoration took place in which unfortunately the entire interior, such as the baptismal font from 1540 and the gentlemen's benches of the Roorda family, was "restored away".
