This cemetery is an old small family cemetery, located on the former Wilhelm Hillert Ranch (now the Ohlrich Ranch) north of FM-1863 about one mile, reached by the same ranch road as the Hillert Cemetery. It is believed that the name "Robert O'Dell" is derived from Robert O'Dell Ohlrich (1932-2010), to distinguish it from the other Hillert cemetery, since no O'Dell family or graves are found in the area. The Comal County Genealogy Society booklet "Lest We Forget" published in 1989 lists this cemetery on page 146, with the name "Robert O'Dell" for the first time, indicating that 5 unmarked graves were inventoried at that time. No tombstones ever existed, although wooden markers were originally present but have deteriorated over the years. The book "History Of Mission Valley Community" by Alton J. Rahe discusses this cemetery on page 167, listing 5 known graves on pages 176-177. It does not appear to be marked on the county map series by Texas Dept. Of Transportation.
