A pioneer cemetery existed in the St. James' Anglican Church, Leitrim churchyard and is believed to have existed prior to the founding of the church. It was originally a Common Burial Grounds and served the earliest pioneers of the area. The burial grounds quickly filled up and it is believed that it was full by the 1870s. During the same era, a cemetery was founded on the Leonard Wood farm and was likely a family burial ground at first. When the churchyard cemetery reached capacity, the Wood family burial ground became the new cemetery serving the Anglicans and Prebyterians in the community. It was deeded to the Anglican Diocese of Ontario in 1881 and has been known as Wood's Cemetery. Over the years, a number of burials were relocated to Wood's Cemetery from the churchyard and most of those remain unmarked. In 1956, the few remaining tombstones in the churchyard and the shattered remains of others were buried. A memorial plaque listing a few that are buried there was unveiled in 2006.
