The cemetery is in Nelson Township - North east 1.25 acres of NW 1/4 of section 23-6-2. This land was owned by Amandeus P. and his wife Laura M("Meheadable?) Burr before this land became property of the Cemetery Association. North west 1.25 acres of NE 1/4 of section 23-6-2. This land was owned by Joseph Jesse and his wife Nancy C. Knapp before this land became property of the Cemetery Association.
This statement is from the Cloud County Kansas Genealogical Society cemetery books: Several years back -- probably in the 1970's -- the stones were removed from this cemetery. None have been found as yet.
This information is from early records of the cemetery:
These names are in existing minutes of this cemetery association (1876-1879): W.H. Whipple, S.B. Ward, J.T. Jackman, T. McHenry, J. Heacock, H. Glasby, S. Farnam, W.S. Ward, S. Doran, J.J. Knapp, A.S. Thomas, H. Titterinton, J.E. Bean, and C.H. Glasby. (S. Doran is Samuel Doran from Elk Township, Cloud County, Kansas and he was the Cloud County surveyor at that time.)
Some of the area neighbors have said:
1)there may be some of the tombstones from the cemetery in a ditch/creek in the section about a quarter of a mile from the cemetery.
2)other area neighbors think that they have seen the tombstones in the south or southwest fence row in the cemetery.
3)one known tombstone had the name of Beagle on it.
Only two tombstones have been found as of yet, Susan Helena Heacock, infant of Annie Buckley and Jonathan Heacock and Martha J. Beagle Heacock, first wife of Jonathan Heacock. One more tombstone has been found with writing so worn that it cannot be read - it may have been a tombstone of a Knapp or a Belt.
Twenty eight memorials were set up using the known/documented names with sites/burial lots with additional information using ancestry.com. One was set up by a family member. The 30th memorial was set up by another FAG member without proof of death/burial and unknown relation to the person in the memorial. One known burial in the cemetery is this FAG member husband's 3great aunt, Maria Louisa Burns Dollard and it is believed that "Lu" Dollard's sister is buried beside her, Susan Josephine Burns Richards.
Hopefully with the cemetery board's help, this FAG member and her husband would like to restore this cemetery. Any help would be appreciated.
