There has been worship (and burial) on this site for a thousand years. Parish Burial Registers go back to 1590 (contact below for help), and those for 1813-1997 are digitised and available on Ancestry.
In 1934, all the then legible memorials in the main graveyard were transcribed. These records are gradually being entered to FindaGrave, adding photos, with GPS.
The churchyard extension was formally opened in 1921. FindaGrave records with a plot number Uxxx refer to this area, which was remapped in 2021 (map is pictured).
A wall with marble plaques memorialises some more recent deaths, including some of those with cremated remains in the Garden of Remembrance. These names are also on FindaGrave.
There are many old memorials inside the church, which are being entered onto FindaGrave, finding correct burial locations if relevant. The website's monument facility will include a list of the 150+ men with bronze plaques in the Warrior Chapel. All of these men rest elsewhere and we plan to note this special memorial on their correct record.
This is work in progress, please contact [email protected] with any enquiry. The plot comment for a memorial missing in 1934 or now will be "sought but not found". It might be possible to work out a location from neighbouring plots.
