Saint Peter's Cemetery
Strayhorn, Tate County, Mississippi, USA
St.Peter Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery
The burials in the cemetery lay beneath wonderfully cooling shade trees on two beautiful rising knolls from a cool small valley. Nothing you would expect to see in an area approaching the flat land of the Mississippi delta.
This is still an active cemetery. Much love can be seen in the care of the stones as well as the ingenious ways of marking these graves where there was no money to be had even for essential items.
The stones with cement in the center were put there as markers by the funeral homes. Continually cared for and kept above ground.
To reach the Cemetery from Senatobia, one would go west on Hwy 4 to just before the township of Stayhorn and turn right on Brownlee Rd. At the intersection with N. Crockett Rd and Bluegoose Rd, Brownlee becomes St. Peter Rd.
About 3/4 miles further north, St. Peter Cemetery is on the west side.
St Peter Missionary Baptist Church is further north on Hogfoot Road.
From the intersection of Brownlee Rd. & MS-4 E, east of Strayhorn, travel north on Brownlee Rd. for 3.0 mi., turning north (left) into the gravel drive of this 'deeded' cemetery, as notated on USGS topo maps.
