St. Andrew's Catholic Church was started by farmers from "Seberger settlement" along with several Columbus, Nebraska based priests including a Father Ambrose.
Farmers who lived in the area and/or had family members buried in one of the two cemeteries, worshiped in one, or both, of two church structures which have since been torn
down, the first as a result of a fire.
A 1949 newsclipping referenced the church parish and cemeteries as being located "three miles west and six miles north of Shelby or four miles east and six miles north of Osceola".
A descendant with family members buried in this cemetery described it as follows in 2003:
- This cemetery is surrounded by a fence, several ancestors have graves here but with no headstones.
- I have been to this cemetery many times. It is in the middle of a pasture and takes a bit of walking to get to it. This cemetery is called St. Andrew's Church Cemetery No. 1. (NW1/4 NW1/4 18-15-1 ).
- I was told cemetery records for cemetery No 1 were destroyed in a fire when the first church building burned down.
The "Polk County Heritage" local history book published in 1975 by the Osceola Centennial Committee, page 287, listed 24 Names of persons with headstones for this cemetery. The 2nd cemetery, referenced as No. 2 had approximately 70 names listed.
