The nobles of Liechtenstein used to own large properties in (what is now) the Czech Republic. After World War II the Czech government confiscated the properties of all foreigners, which included the royal family's properties and castles.
In 1812 the Nobles of Liechtenstein had built a royal crypt underneath the Church of our Virgin Mary in the hills above Vranov. As of 2009 the church and crypt are under the administration of the Roman-Catholic Church of the Czech Republic. The government of the Czech Republic has todate refused to reimburse the family for their loses, so the Liechtenstein family has (in retribution) not supported the maintenance of the crypt. As of 2009 the burial place for 40+ princes of Liechtenstein is in very poor shape. The crypt has two rooms, called the "New Crypt" and the "Old Crypt". Since World War II the family is using the Fürstliche Gruft in Vaduz (Dukedom of Liechtenstein) as their burial place.
