St. Peter's Church, Hednesford was built on land donated by the Marquis of Anglesey and opened in 1868, built from stone from the Marquis's quarry at Etchinghill, Rugeley. Hednesford separated from Cannock to become an ecclesiastical parish in 1870. The north aisle and south porch were added in 1904-5.
The church had always suffered from mining subsidence, the gable end falling suddenly in 1921. Further damage in the 1930s necessitated underpinning. It was eventually demolished in 1986 and a new replacement built adjacent which opened in 1987. The chancel wall of the old church still stands alongside the new.
There are no standing memorials left in the churchyard but there is an area of flat stones, lying south-east of the church.
