The first cemetery on the site was the Gilmer family cemetery. John Gilmer was an early pioneer who moved to Saline County, Missouri in 1834. He obtained land patents west of Arrow Rock in 1837 and 1841 in Township 50, Range 20, Section 15 and bought adjoining property in Section 15, becoming the owner of what later became Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery. The first burial so far known in what was called the "Gilmer graveyard" was in 1851, followed in 1865 by John's wife. The Gilmer cemetery accommodated family and others. The 1876 Saline County plat map shows the Gilmer cemetery with a road cutting through the property and the cemetery south of the road. The road was known as the Arrow Rock and Marshall road and also as the "buffalo trail." This road much later became Highway 41. The Gilmer cemetery now occupies the southeast corner of Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery.
In 1884 the Shiloh United Methodist Church was organized. The burial grounds were expanded east of the church. The church lasted for 102 years, disbanded in 1986.
The cemetery is in current use, is maintained, and there is a cemetery association.
