Abbaye de Hautecombe
Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille, Departement de la Savoie, Rhône-Alpes, France
Hautecombe Abbey was founded about 1101, in a narrow valley near Lake Bourget by hermits from Aulps Abbey. About 1125, it was transferred to a site on the north-western shore of the lake under Mont du Chat, which had been granted to it by Amadeus, Count of Savoy, who is named as the founder; and shortly afterwards it accepted the Cistercian Rule from Clairvaux. It once housed Cistercians and Benedictine orders, and today houses the Chemin Neuf community. It is the traditional burial place of Savoy princes and of the Kings of Italy, since they are the same family.
