Thomas Albert Mauzy Sr., 91, of Grottoes, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Avante at Harrisonburg.

He was born in McGaheysville on Dec. 15, 1916, and was a son of the late Whitfield Liggett and Nettie Irene (Yancey) Mauzy.

He was a graduate of the McGaheysville High School, class of 1935. He was a businessman and owned several rental properties. He retired from the U.S Forestry Service. He was a member of the Grottoes United Methodist Church.

He was married to Nannie R. Fitzwater Mauzy of Grottoes.

In addition, survivors include by children, Victor Lee Mauzy of Glen Allen, Karen Starr Dunn of Richmond, Betty Mitchell of Port Republic, Carole Rexrode of Bridgewater, Thomas A. "Tommy" Mauzy Jr. of Chatham, Greg K. Mauzy of Grottoes and Jennifer Roadcap of Broadway; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Bobby Mundy of Grottoes.

A funeral service was held at Johnson Funeral Service Grottoes Chapel, Grottoes, on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, with the Rev. James E. Burns officiating. Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

The family received friends last Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.
