He was born in 1869 and this is confirmed through census records and journals written by his daughter and a grandson. His name at birth was Paul Williams Yancey, but by the time he married in 1891 he was going by W P Yancey. In 1917 he enlisted in the Army and gave his birth date as 1879 and changed his name to William Paul Yancey. He felt he needed to honor his family by enlisting. He served as an Engineer Mechanic and was gassed by accidental explosion in France.. Received am honorable Discharge in Sept 1919.
