The son of William Burbridge Yancey and Mary Kyle Smith Yancey.

Captain, Company E, 10th Virginia Volunteer Infantry. Peaked Mountain Grays. At the Battle of Cedar Run the command of the regiment devolved upon Captain W. B. Yancey. At Gettysburg the Tenth again participated in some heavy fighting, under the command of Captain Yancey. In May, 1864 he was permanently disabled by a severe wound.
He was married to Victoria Julia Winsborough 2/15/1860. After the war, the Yanceys raised a huge family. The children were tutored at Riverbank, their home. The photograph shows Captain Yancey at Riverbank.
