SHEROD FOSTER YANCEY, JR. died on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in Brunswick, Maine after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Foster was a lifetime summer resident of the Auburn Colony in Harpswell, Maine.

He was born December 27, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Mary Frances Cunningham Yancey and the late Sherod Foster Yancey, Sr. He was educated at St. Marks School of Texas and the University of Oklahoma. Foster lived his life quietly and practically. He was a very generous person with his time and his willingness to help others. He had an insatiable curiosity about many things; what they were, how they worked and how they could be improved upon. Foster had a long successful career encompassing many interests. He was a good craftsman, an avid fisherman and part of a world championship drag race team.

He and longtime friend, Bradley Camp, formed a partnership in real estate development and the nursery business.

He was survived by his mother, his sister, Martha Jane "Happy" Yancey and his brother, David Cunningham Yancey and wife Elizabeth; several nieces and a nephew. He is also survived by his cousins, Sherod Yancey of Harpswell, and Steve Yancey of Dallas.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home.
