Red Rock Canyon
A 68 year old prospector found unconscious and seriously injured at the foot of a cliff in the Red Rock Canyon area Sept. 24th, passed away in Kern General Hospital last Saturday.
Boyd Young Yancy, who had been prospecting in the Red Rock area for some time, was found Tuesday night by a 12 year old boy and neighbors who were attracted by a barking dog. It is presumed he suffered a stroke which caused his fall and laid in the hot sun all day before being discovered. A deep gash was found on Yancy's head, a result of the fall.
Deputies from the Ridgecrest Sheriff's Station were called and the injured man was taken by Stickel Ambulance to Tehachapi Valley Hospital, and later transferred to Bakersfield.
Boyd Yancy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 2, 1896 and at one tiIme worked on the Los Angeles Aqueduct. Funeral services and interment will be at Valhala Cemetery in the Los, Angeles area. He is survived by a sister, Odessa Goodman of Hawthorne, and 'two brothers, Harris and David of Garden Grove, Calif.
